Will and LPA Reviews
Do your existing plans still reflect your life today?
Review your Will, Lasting Power of Attorney, or both, and check that they still reflect your wishes, circumstances, relationships and future plans.
The initial appointment is free, with no obligation to make changes.
Why review your existing documents?
A Will or Lasting Power of Attorney may have been right when it was prepared, but your life and relationships may have changed since then.
You may have moved home, married, separated, welcomed children or grandchildren, lost someone important to you, or changed your views about who should act on your behalf.
Changes in your finances, property ownership or future plans may also affect whether your existing arrangements still work as intended.
A review gives you an opportunity to check that your documents remain clear, suitable and consistent with what you now want.
What can be reviewed?
A review can look at an existing Will, an existing Lasting Power of Attorney, or both together.
For a Will, this may include checking your executors, beneficiaries, gifts, guardians, trusts and any wishes relating to your home or family.
For an LPA, the review can consider your attorneys, replacement attorneys, how they are appointed to act and any preferences or instructions included in the document.
The outcome may be that no changes are needed, that a document should be updated, or that replacing it would provide greater clarity.
How Elephant Legal helps
A review is not about making changes for the sake of it.
Elephant Legal considers your existing documents alongside your current wishes, relationships, property and future plans.
You will receive a clear explanation of whether your arrangements still appear suitable and what options are available if something needs attention.
Where a Will only needs a limited amendment, a codicil may be suitable. Where the changes are more substantial, preparing a new Will may provide a clearer result.
Any recommended work, next steps and costs will be explained before you decide whether to proceed.

Common questions
Will and LPA reviews explained
Clear answers to some of the questions people commonly ask before arranging a review of their existing documents.
When should I review my Will or LPA?
It is sensible to review your documents when your circumstances, relationships, property or future plans have changed.
This might follow a marriage, separation, bereavement, house move, new child or grandchild, change in finances, or a change in the people you would trust to act for you.
A review can also be useful where your documents were prepared several years ago and you are no longer certain what they contain.
Can you review documents prepared by someone else?
Yes. Elephant Legal can review an existing Will or Lasting Power of Attorney even if it was prepared by another solicitor, will writer or legal service.
The purpose is to understand what the document currently provides and whether it still reflects your wishes and circumstances.
What should I bring to the appointment?
Please bring your existing Will, LPA documents, or both, together with any codicils or related letters of wishes.
The original documents are helpful where available, although copies can be provided in advance so that they can be read before the appointment.
It may also help to think about anything that has changed since the documents were prepared.
Does a review mean I will need new documents?
No. Your existing documents may still be suitable and no further action may be needed.
The purpose of the review is to check whether they continue to work as intended, not to recommend changes unnecessarily.
Where something does need attention, the available options will be explained clearly before you decide what to do.
Can a Will be changed using a codicil?
A codicil is a separate legal document that makes a limited change to an existing Will while leaving the remainder of the Will in place.
It may be suitable for a small and straightforward amendment. However, where several changes are needed or the existing Will has become unclear, preparing a new Will may provide a clearer result.
Elephant Legal will explain which option appears most appropriate for your circumstances.
Can an existing LPA be amended?
An existing LPA cannot usually be rewritten or altered in the same way as an informal document.
If your choice of attorneys, instructions or arrangements needs to change, it may be necessary to revoke the existing LPA and prepare a replacement.
The review will help identify whether the existing document remains suitable and what practical steps may be required.
Is the review appointment really free?
Yes. There is no charge for the initial Will and LPA review appointment.
There is also no obligation to proceed with any further work. Where a codicil, new Will or replacement LPA is recommended, the available options and costs will be explained separately.
What happens next if changes are recommended?
You will receive a clear explanation of what appears to need attention and why.
Depending on the document and the changes required, the next step may be a codicil, a new Will, a replacement LPA or no immediate action at all.
Any further work and costs will be agreed with you before anything is prepared.
